Melina Pappadedmos is Assistant Professor of History and African American Studies. She completed her undergraduate work at Cornell University, received her Master of Arts degree while at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, and has earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree from the History Department of New York University. Professor Pappademos’ research and teaching interests focus on the social and cultural history of race, social and political mobilizations, nationalisms, and the experiences of people of African descent in the Americas, particularly in the Caribbean and Latin America. The recipient of several awards from New York University as well as Marquette University, the Ford Foundation, and the United States Department of Education Fulbright-Hays, Dr. Pappademos has presented her research at numerous conferences, and has lectured and organized courses on topics such as race and ethnicity in Latin America and the Caribbean, and the history of Cuban politics and black Cuban elites. Recently, she has traveled to Cuba with the students, co-ordinating New York University's study abroad program there.
