Maya Beasley
Dr. Maya Beasley has a joint appointment as an Assistant Professor with the Department of Sociology and the Institute. A native of Maryland, Dr. Beasley earned her BA in Sociology from Harvard University, her MA and Ph.D. in Sociology from Stanford University. She was a post-doctorate fellow at Harvard University and Brown University before arriving at UConn this year.
Her research interests include ethnic conflict, social movements, and racial stratification.
She is currently completing a book entitled, Opting Out, based on her research on African-American and white college student occupational aspirations and choices.
Dr. Beasley is also conducting research on the role of international sanctions in the South African Anti-Apartheid Movement and recently started a study on the influence of socioeconomic and structural factors on the rate of terrorism in Israel and Palestine.
